Accessing the Albrecht Library

We are pleased that you are considering research in the collections of the Herman J. Albrecht Library of Historical Architecture and encourage you to do so.

The Albrecht Library ’s collection is in the custody of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Department of the Thompson Library at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA.

The Reading Room of Rare Books and Manuscripts Department is open Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Appointments are required and can be made through the following link:  https://library.osu.edu/rbml/visit

Steps prior to a Research Visit

Prior to a research visit you will be required by the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library to submit a research application and a request list. Because many items in the Albrecht Library are rare or fragile you also will be asked to read and understand the “Research Material Use Guidelines,” which provides important information about the care and handling of research materials.

Additional information regarding the location of the Thompson Library, parking, and other matters is also found via the link: https://library.osu.edu/rbml/visit

Continuing Albrecht Library Acquisitions

Note that the Herman J. Library of Historical Architecture is continually growing and that it is possible that materials significant for your research may have been added to the Library subsequent to your inquiry or initial visit. We recommend that at the time of your research visit you ask the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library staff whether there are recent acquisitions relevant to your research.

New Acquisition

Il Vignola Illustrato

Posthumous work, with illustrations, describing Vignola's use of the five columnal orders, including a biography.
